केंद्र सरकारने पेट्रोल डिझेलवरील अबकारी कर कमी केल्याने पेट्रोल डिझेलवरील दर कमी झाले आहेत. आता काही राज्यांनीही पेट्रोल डिझेलवरी कर कमी सर्वसामान्यांना दिलासा दिला आहे. उत्तर प्रदेश, गोवा, बिहार गुजरात, हरियाणा, आसाम, त्रिपुरा, मणिपूर आणि कर्नाटक या राज्यांनी पेट्रोल डिझेलवरील व्हॅट कमी केला आहे.
पुढील वर्षी गोवा आणि उत्तर प्रदेशमध्ये निवडणूक होऊ घातल्या आहेत. त्यापूर्वी या राज्यांनी पेट्रोल डिझेलवरी दर कमी केले आहेत. उत्तर प्रदेशने पेट्रोलवरी 7 तर डिझेलवरील 2 रुपये कर कमी केल्याचे जाहीर केले आहे. त्यामुळे उत्तर प्रदेशमध्ये पेट्रोल आणि डिझेल 12 रुपयांनी स्वस्त झाले आहे.
गोव्याचे मुख्यमंत्री प्रमोद सावंत यांनीही राज्यात पेट्रोल डिझेलवरील प्रत्येकी 7 रुपयांनी कर कमी केला आहे. त्यामुळे गोव्यात पेट्रोल 17 रुपयांची स्वस्त झाले आहे.

उत्तराखंड आणि सिक्कीम या राज्यांनीही पेट्रोल डिझेलवरील कर कमी केल्याचे जाहीर केले आहे.
हरियाणामध्ये मुख्यमंत्री मनोहरलाल खट्टर यांनी पेट्रोल डिझेलवरील 12 रुपये व्हॅट कमी केला असून सर्वसामान्यांना दिलासा दिला आहे.
दीपावली के अवसर पर केंद्र सरकार ने पैट्रोल व डीज़ल की कीमतों में कमी की घोषणा की है, उसे आगे बढाते हुए हरियाणा सरकार ने भी राज्य में पैट्रोल व डीज़ल में VAT को कम कर दिया है, अब पूरे हरियाणा प्रदेश में पेट्रोल एवं डीज़ल, दोनों 12 रु प्रति लीटर सस्ते हो जाएँगे।

बिहारमध्ये सर्वाधिक व्हॅट कमी करण्यात आला आहे. बिहारमध्ये पेट्रोलवरील व्हॅट 1.30 तर डिझेलवरील 1.90 रुपयांनी कमी केले आहेत.

कर्नाटकात पेट्रोल डिझेल कमी केले जातील असे संकेत मुख्यमंत्री बसवराज बोम्मई यांनी दिले होते. त्यानुसार पेट्रोल डिझेलवरील व्हॅट 7 रुपयांनी कमी केला आहे. यामुळे 2100 कोटी रुपयांचे नुकसान होईल असेही बोम्मई यांनी सांगितले.
